SOS Studio: the Family Point project continues

The lack of adequate family support is, according to Istat (2020), the main cause of early school leaving in Italy. The use of Distance Learning made necessary by the Pandemic, then, has made even greater the impact of the family socio-economic context on the possibility of the individual student to successfully complete the cycle of studies.

For this reason, the ACLI provinciali di Cagliari have decided to activate SOS Studio, a free school support service for secondary school children (for kids from 11 to 14 years) and the two-year period of secondary school (for kids from 14 to 16 years), Managed by the volunteers of the National Civil Service. The project, which arises in the context of the activities of the Acli Family Point with the aim of combating early school leaving and is in continuity with other similar initiatives carried out in the recent past, provides for the support of the student in the study activities: during a preliminary meeting, in which the parents and operators of the ACLI will also take part, training needs will be assessed and a work programme established.

"Our project is particularly oriented to support the families most in difficulty from an economic point of view, who are unable to cope with the expense of a private teacher. It must also be taken into account that, often, Trying to set up an effective study method may not be enough to restore motivation to young people – he explains James Card, president Acli Cagliari –, and it is here that the boys of the Civil Service enter the field who will act as tutors: sometimes what you need is a moment of confrontation, a tip, but also a simple example to follow. This is why we strongly believe in the added value of initiatives like this".

The project "Sos Studio", which will be active throughout the summer (apart from a short break in the week of August), it will then support the school support service active from September throughout the year and already tested in the recent past with great satisfaction of students and families.
