Racial discrimination – "beyond the boundaries"

Elmas, 18 March 2015 – On the occasion of International Day for the Elimination of racial discrimination ’, l ’ the culture of the municipality of Elmas, the Acli Provincials of Cagliari and l ’ Association ’ in collaboration with UNAR US Acli Sardinia, l ’ l ’ Ipsia Sardinia and Amal Association Association, promote the seminar Racial discrimination – “Beyond the barriers”, which will take place Saturday 21 March 2015 at 09:30 at the ’ Assembly of the municipality of Elmas in Via del Pino Solitario sn.

Why is it important to know and to combat racial discrimination? Because a prejudice based on race is forcing entire ethnic minorities all ’ marginalization hampering their feeling part of a community's social life. This premise, for those who belong to an ethnic minority, involves a low level of schooling, high rates of unemployment and living situations characterized by extreme poverty.

L ’ event, organized in the framework of the project ’ “ImPARIS- Migrants ready to play an active role In Sardinia”, with the contribution of the work, Vocational Training, Cooperation and social security of the autonomous region of Sardinia, aims, on one side, to sensitize the population on the theme of racial discrimination, is, from ’ more, at present some successful projects realized in the international arena, national and regional levels where, sport has played an important role in combating racism and discrimination.

Self-discipline, respect for the opponent and teamwork ’, intrinsic values in sport, can, indeed, help create social inclusion phenomena, integrating marginalized people, to build bridges between ethnic groups and races, is, Finally to promote those instruments for preventing and resolving social tensions and conflicts.

The promotion of gender equality, creating opportunities for people who suffer discrimination, the involvement of young people through sport, European exchange projects, school projects, will be some of the themes presented during the seminar.

The morning will conclude with a debate, in which participants will discuss the issues related to the phenomenon of discriminatory, the causes, the consequences, but especially, on what tools exist or can be created in order to combat it.
