Acli di Elmas: Friday 21 March the Partner's Day

It will be held on Friday 21 March 2014 the Member's Party, traditional moment of meeting, organized by Acli di Elmas, but open to all citizens. The theme chosen this year is the fight against food waste, with the aim of informing and raising awareness about the inequalities that separate the third world, poor and developing, and the West, still materially rich but in crisis of values. Particular attention will be paid to the Sardinian and local realities in which we are immersed: In fact, the deep social inequalities caused and exacerbated by the deep economic crisis in progress are evident to all., which has eroded the purchasing power of our families, bringing out new forms of poverty, and making the need to manage resources well felt to reconcile reduced budgets and proper nutrition.

According to the president of the Acli Circle of Elmas, Roberto Marongiu “some data, taken from the European Parliament resolution calling for the proclamation of the 2014 as the European Year against Food Waste, make these concepts more evident and reveal almost striking contrasts within European society.; according to this document, indeed, every year in Europe an increasing amount of healthy and edible food – according to some estimates up to 50% – is lost along all links in the food chain, and often also with consumers, turning into waste; at the same time, according to an FAO study (the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations), the expected increase from 7 a 9 billions of the world's population will require a minimal increase in 70% of food production by 2050”.

“The initiative of the Club – continues Marongiu – is in line with the adhesion of the national ACLI to the “States General for the prevention of food waste in Italy”: The philosophy of these information events is not so much to imagine a poor or rich society., but rather (as Riccardo Lombardi said) a differently rich society that does not offer less consumption but "qualitatively different" consumption that enriches the whole community and generates social capital”.

The event will begin with Holy Mass, chaired by Mons. Luciano Leagues, at 17,30 at the Parish Church in Piazza San Sebastiano. To follow (hours 18), The debate will take place at the oratory, in Piazza PADRE PIO: Don Marco Lai will speak (Diocesan Caritas Manager), Carla Melis (nutritionist), and representatives of the institutions and the world of associations of Elmas and the public debate. At the end of the debate the Circolo Acli will be happy to offer refreshments.
